Port Renfrew

It started with a plan, a plan to camp over Easter weekend and show our Australian friends who were visiting from Vancouver a good time! The plan was solid, but the weather was not so much! Leading up the the trip I had been checking the weather like a mad woman, I mean I know it was April and the chances of it being warm were slim, but that wasn't what I was worried about... It was the storm that threatened to put a dent in our plans. Nevertheless, the weekend arrived and our determined group decided we would still make the best of the weekend, even if it may be a little cold and soggy! At least we would have each other. So we went, and holy shit was it cold! Thankfully I thought ahead and prior to the trip I purchased a large waterproof canopy to put over our tents, it just covered our 4 tents but didn't leave much room for the 8 of us to stay dry under... But we made it work. Between downpours we drank wine by the fire, danced to old school hits and played games! The first night was a wild wet one on the West Coast! But thankfully after the first nights storm, the sun came out and we were able to enjoy the second day and night while staying dry. The next day we explored Avatar Grove - "Home of Canada's Gnarliest Tree" and Bontanical Beach! Both are must see's when visiting beautiful Port Renfrew! We stayed at Pacheedaht Campground in Port Renfrew. A beautiful First Nations campground situated along the beach. The campsites are super basic, only drop toilets and nothing else. A reasonably rough camping experience, but one of the most beautiful places I have experienced camping on the Island so far! However, I might suggest if you do plan to go, maybe wait until summer and book ahead! This is one super popular spot and they do book out during the busy seasons.
